Dear jfh,

Please do the following:

1. Turn off all 3rd party and non-essential processes and services inc.
anti virus filters. Typically, we know for a fact that these dont interfere
in SQL setup.

Services -
Alerter
ClipBook Server
Computer Browser
Directory Replicator
Event Log Messenger
Net Logon
Network DDE
Network DDE DSDM
NT LM Security Support Provider
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Locator
Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service
Schedule
Server
Spooler
UPS
Workstation

Processes
csrss.exe, Explorer.exe, llssrv.exe, loadwc.exe, lsass.exe, nddeagnt.exe,
pstores.exe, RpcSs.exe, services.exe, smss.exe, spools.exe, System, System
Idle Process, taskmgr.exe, winlogon.exe

2. Review the sqlstp.log that's created in the WinNT (system folder) that
tells you where exactly the setup failed. That will give you some
information on tshooting the error.

Cheers!
