Could you please check if, all the files from your previous installation
attempts have been deleted or not. This includes registry key
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MSSQLServer and the folder for sql server (i.e.
\Microsoft SQL Server\).

Then pls try your setup to see if it goes through.
