I can't connect to my MSDE session that I installed yesterday. It appears to
have installed properly, but I can't make an ODBC connection. I downloaded
MSDE 2000a just a few days ago so it is very recent.
When I look at the control panel, Administrative tools, Services, my
MSSQL$CDC2004 exists and it is started. It is on automatic. Does this mean
it is running? The documentation says to make sure it is running but not
how to check if it is running.
When I try to connect to the server via ODBC, it does not show on my list in
the server drop down box for the SQL Server driver. It does show my SQL
2000 instance as well as "local", and two blank lines. I have no idea what
these blank lines are.
When I go to event viewer, I see a warning and the following:
The description for Event ID ( 19011 ) in Source ( MSSQL$CDC2004 ) cannot be
found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or
message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be
able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and
Support for details. The following information is part of the event:
(SpnRegister) : Error 1355.
Is the above the problem? If so, what does it mean and how do I correct it?
It seems I am missing a step here someplace. Do I need to do something to
make the MSDE server instance show up on the ODBC control panel applet?
I haven't attached the database yet, because the OSQL.EXE needs to have an
ODBC connection in order to work with the MSDE session. Is this correct?
This is on a WinXP box, there is also Visual Studio 6 and .NET, SQL Server
2000 Developer, Office XP on this system.
Thanks for your help and advice.
