must be something else going on. the directory is shared and abc user has
change and read permission on the directory.

Usually when you share a directory, you need to set the permission on two.
level, the sharing, and security. Not sure if you did this, but normally when
I create a share folder, I went to the server and then locate the folder that
I want to share and then after that do a right click and then click on the
Properties.
Then you see 'Sharing' tab and 'Security' tab. In order for abc user to be
able to access the database successfully, the user should have enough
permission in both the Sharing permission and Security permission.
From what you've decribed, since abc can logon to the server and access the
database locally, it seems that it has enough security permission. However,
it does not seems like abc has write permission on the Sharing part. Try
doing this, on the server, try to right click on the folder, then click on
properties. Click the Sharing tab, and then click on the Permissions button,
and check to see if abc has enough permission.
Hopefully that would do the trick (at least that's what I am guessing, as it
could be some other reasons).

Thank you for your response. Yes abc has permission on the directory
databases are located unless share permission is something different. Yes
other users can access the database from client systems. Thus the reason why
this is so puzzling.

Is this for MS Access database? Any particular error given when abc tries to
open the databases?
I am assuming that abc is trying to access the database using a file share.
In that case, have you check to see if abc has been added to the Share
permission. You also mention that other user in the domain has the ability to
access the database, are they able to do this from client system?

I have perused many newsgroups and have yet to find the answer or solution to
this problem. I have a login lets call it abc in my ad on my dc. Another
server in the domain has all of my databases (so far msaccess). abc login is
in the domain users grop on dc and domain users is in the users group on
database server. Users group has read, write, modify on directorys and all
users in domain users can use and open databases except abc. abc can
directly log on to the database server and can open any database on that
server but when abc logs in from a client computer it can not write to the
directory to create a lock in the ldb file. I have added a abc user to
database server with same name and password as in dc and still acts the same
way. Thank you for any ideas for solution.
