Backup Sets not being removed

I am running maintenance plans on SQL2008 with a 5 day expiration date for
backup sets. We are filling up our hard drives with sets that are no longer
needed. In SQL2000 when a backup set expired it was deleted. What am I
missing for SQL2008?
Are jobs are running with no errors.
