>From the webcast last week, it looks like SP4 is targeted for the first half
of 2005. That being said, there is no "fix" with UMS non-yielding processes
on scheduler threads. SP3 just provided more "server health" notifications.
However, there are at least three publicly available, post SP3a hotfixes you
could download that could assist with some contention issues that may be
driving the non-yielding nature of your problem.
As other posters have indicated, MS PSS would be better suited to diagnose
your issue.
That being said, take a look at the following KB for what you are discribing
as well as the links to the public hotfixes I mentioned.
New concurrency and scheduling diagnostics added to SQL Server:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;319892
SQL Server 2000 hotfix update for SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 and 3a:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810185
Build 80.00.0818:
SQL Server 2000 (32-bit) Security Patch MS03-031:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=9814ae9d-bd44-40c5-add3-b8c99618e68d&displaylang=en
Build 80.00.0819:
FIX: You are prompted for password confirmation after you change a standard
SQL Server login:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q826161
Build 80.00.0859:
FIX: Issues that are resolved in SQL Server 2000 build 8.00.0859:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;[LN];Q821334
Build 80.00.0878:
You must install the SQL Server 2000 update that KB article 831950 describes
to run BizTalk Server 2004: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=838166
Keep in mind that SQL Server hot fix builds are cumulative and contain all
fixes, public and private, that have preceeded it. So, for instance, if you
install the latest publicly available hot fix build, 878, then looking at
article KB 810185 will tell you all the bugs and fixes contained within this
build post SP3a. If any of these look like they may help your situation,
applying this build may assist.
Also keep in mind that 967 is the current private available build and that
878 itself may introduce issues between these two builds, which is also
listed in KB 810185.
SP4 is what I am after also, but, I also have production issues TODAY that
need to be addressed; so, we run 878 and for some installations, call MS PSS
to get the private build to fix that particular issue.
You should also be apart of the Beta Testing program, which only helps all
of us, and Microsoft find and fix additional bugs before release.

Hope this helps.

Anthony Thomas

We've got a problem with non-yeilding schedules that is "supposedly" fixed in SP4. Thanks in advance Dave -- Dave Wall
