SQL Agent Backup Failure: "Pipe has been ended"

Hello,

We are using the BrightStor Backup Agent Admin Version 9.0 (Build
2020). The OS is Win2000 AS SP4. The computer is hosting MSSQL 2000
SP3a. Database backups fail with the following event in the
Application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: MSSQLSERVER
Event Category: (2)
Event ID: 17055
Description:
18210 : BackupMedium::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device
'\\.\pipe\dbasql@MSSQLSERVER\dbagent0s0'. Operating system error
109(The pipe has been ended.).

Any ideas on what to check or how to correct the problem?
