That is strange. I just did exactly that. I have a workgroup, and SQL Server is running under a
service account that also exists on the other machine, having the same password on both machines. I
executed below command, and it worked perfectly:

BACKUP DATABASE pubs TO DISK = '\\TibMedia\C\pubs.bak'
