    I'm glad this was finally resolved; I'm especially happy it wasn't data
corruption, as that would lessen my trust in SQL Server's abilities to keep
solid integrity.

    As for the issue itself, according to the KB article there is a hotfix.
So you should give PSS a call if you like to sit on the phone on hold for an
hour :-)
