We had a similar problem doing a cluster install. The interactive sql
setup called the unattended installs on each of the two cluster nodes
and would quit after a 30 minute timeout saying "Failed to perform
operations on clustered nodes." At one point, we determined the
timeout was occuring because the installs were so slow and found your
suggestion. We turned off services and installed properly. Later we
tracked down the problem to a specific Dell Open Manage service called
"Remote Access Control (RAC)". This service also caused problems
installing one other program.
