It is not clear whether you managed to run that procedure to completion.
Could you clarify?
On the other hand, why not start using the BACKUP and RESTORE commands from
Query Analyzer, for better control?

I have tried to execute the sp_delete_backuphistory stored procedure to clear the tables but it appears to hang and never responds.
