Agreed.

RAID 1+0 or 0+1 is ideal.

Many SAN/NAS vendors use a "Custom" RAID 5 implementation that
speeds\optimizes Write performance to overcome the poor performance of
standard RAID 5 Implementations (Parity Bit).

I would DEFINATELY look into this with the Vendor or with your internal
Expert.

we are moving off of a Network Appliance NAS and onto the Hitachi SAN for
this very reason. Our NAS is proving not to be ideal for our OLTP System.
