We recently did a proof of concept using HP Itanium based servers to see if
we could gain any performance in our data warehouse. We found we gained a
major hit in Analysis Services and a minor increase in the regular database
operations. MSAS is memory intensive and we could run parallel processes in
the 64-bit world. We also could consolidate servers because of the 16
exabyte memory availability.

If we did a lot of memory caching or loading of the database we got good
increases in the speed of a regular database but not enough to warrant the
use of Itanium servers for that function. All-in-all the higher processor
speeds for a regular RDBMS in the 32-bit world made up for the memory issues
you find there. But if you have that high end BI type of database function
then IMHO 64-bit is the way to go.
