The only reason I can think of to buy Itanium is if you need lots of RAM. I
do not have any direct experience to speak of, just people I've spoken with
in the industry say that the Itanium processors are actually slower than 32
bit ones, but allow you to use huge amounts of RAM, without the performance
cost of AWE.
