We have a SQL2K server we installed sp3a and recieved the "error 17883 The
Scheduler 0 appears to be hung....". I thought it was a result of the
problem referenced in KB 810885 (Fix: High-end Disk Subsystem May Experience
Error 17883) when a database would auto grow. Last night we applied the
security patch in MS03-031 and our @@Version on this server is 818. Here
are the problems I see this morning:
1) 3 hours after the installation, I got this error "Error: 17883, Severity:
1, State: 0 - Process 0:0 (758) UMS Context 0x11D191C8 appears to be
non-yielding on Scheduler 1.". The article refers to a minidump that gets
created and I found the file. It appears to be binary and non-readable as
text.
2) When I use the performance monitor to look at the server, there are no
SQL Perf counters to choose from. The counters were there after sp3a, but
seemed to have diappeared after the security patch install.
The patch installation did not require a reboot, so we did not restart the
server. The KB article states sp3a now reports this problem, so I need to
ask is it possible we have had this issue but it's just now reported?
Hardware:
Win2K sp2 w/SRP1
SQL2K Standard sp3a w/ MS03-031 security patch
2GB memory
EMC CS600 San
Thanks for any direction that can be given.
