not enough information, Sean ... RAM ? disk array ? XEON what ? # users ?
typical activity on SQL/other ? you could certainly look at Perfmon for a
while and see how much of the box is being used right now; that'd give you
some indication ... in the end, you can load it all up and if it doesn't
work, you can shop the secondary market for an older box to run SQL 2K; you
can probably find a dual P3 500-600mhz with 1gb for under $1000 and it would
handle a LOT of SQL activity ...

the obvious problem with "trying it out" is if it doesn't work you could put
a real crimp in your business activity while you sort it all out; you can
shut down SQL2K easiliy enough but then you have to reinstall on the 2nd box
...

for example:

tion=WEB%5FALL%5FLOCATIONS&part%5Fno=100738%2D003%2DG0DA2%2D06&find%5Fcatego
ry=01%2E1&find%5Fdescription=Server+%2D+Pentium+III&find%5Fpart%5Fdesc=&find
%5Fpart%5Fdesc2=&find%5Fpart%5Fdesc3=&find%5Fpart%5Fdesc4=&find%5Fpart%5Fdes
c5=&find%5Fpart%5Fdesc6=&search=multi

Proliant 5500 (refurb), 2 XEON P3 550mhz, 2GB RAM, open bay $423; you need
disks .. refurb 18.2 gb UltraWide SCSI 2/3 go for around $60-100 ... that
still makes for a very nice, very serviceable machine; if you're allergic
to refurbs or have to have the latest processor, get the checkbook out ;)
