Usually I set the "Replication: agent failure" alert and this would capture
such an instance. I wonder if your mail is set up and working correctly. Can
you configure the alert to email an operator then go to the operators
section and click the button to send a test email. If you somehow have a
case that the job fails but the alert doesn't fire, you could add the
notification to the distribution agent's job itself.
