RE: snapshots on network share

Hello Steve,
The most simple method is creating a local user name/password on both
server and clients. You could configure both shared/NTFS security
permission on the folder for that user. When clients log on as this new
user, he shall be able to access the shared folder.
Also, you could try to use some configuration to enable anonymous access to
the folder:
Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003 policy settings
Set the following policy settings. Depending on your specific
installation needs and configuration, we recommend that you set them in the
lowest
entity of necessary scope in the policy application hierarchy:
Computer Configuration \ Windows Settings Security Settings \ Security
Options
Windows 2000:
"Additional restrictions for anonymous connections"
None. Rely on default permissions
Do not allow enumeration of SAM accounts and shares
No access without explicit anonymous permissions
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users
Windows 2003:
Network access: Allow anonymous SID/Name translation
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts
Network access: Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and
shares
Network access: Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users
Network access: Named pipes can be accessed anonymously
Network access: Restrict anonymous access to Named Pipes and shares
Network access: Shares that can be accessed anonymously
You could manually add "anonymous logon" in shared/ntfs permission after
setting above policy.
Steve, since the issue is related to Windows settings, it is also suggested
that you also go to Windows newsgroup so that you could get more qualifed
answers there.

| Hi.
|
| I have successfully developed a pocket pc applicatoin that synchronizes
data
| using SQL Server replication - it was easy to setup and works great.
|
| When configuring the publication, the snapshot must be created on a
network
| share (\\computer\snapshot). How can I get this to work if I have an
| environment that is a standalone machine?
|
| If I create a shared folder, assign appropriate permissions, I still
can't
| navigate to \\computer\snapshot if the machine is not connected to a
domain.
| I even tried creating a work group, again with no success.
|
| I hope I have explained the situation well enough. Any help will be
greatly
| appreciated.
