FTP is simply for the trasnsfer of the initial snapshot. The snapshot could
be distributed in a variety of ways.
At a minimum you'll need your SQL Server TCP port (usually 1433) to be
available as well.
For all kinds of security reasons, if it's feasible, using VPN is a good
idea for internet replication.
