merge replication error 8134

Initiating synchronization of a Merge Replication Pull
Subscription returns error 8134 (divide by zero).

The full msg is

"Last Command: {call sp_MShelpmergearticles (?,
8000000, ?) }

Error Msg: The merge process could not retrieve article
information for publication 'CorStatData'.

Error Details: The merge process could not retrieve
article information for publication 'CorStatData'.

Divide by zero error encountered.

This error occurs for all subscribers, whether just sync'ing, or
reinitializing, or dropping the subscription and reinitializing.

I can retrieve the merge articles with sp_helpmergearticle
at the server.

The problem first occurred today after adding some columns with
sp_repladdcolumn to existing articles and then some articles via EM over the
weekend. These actions ran without errors.

I appreciate any ideas about how to resolve this issue.
