SQL Server Agent is a service used to run scheduled jobs, send messages to
operators, respond to alerts etc. It is a separate service to SQL Server and
essentially 'runs' replication - replication is a series of jobs referred to
as agents and these jobs are run by SQL Server Agent (and by default as the
agent logon). In the SQL Server Service Manager, you need to select SQL
Server Agent and start it.
