Backup Maintinance

Im trying to set up a Backup Maintiance plan for one of our SQL 2000 Servers.
Using Enterprise Manager i create the backup job, but when trying to run the
Job, it fails with the following error;

 'The Job failed. the Job was invoked by User sa'

Any Idea's as to why the jobs are failing
