Hi there Charles,
Using OWC in an ASP page pointing to the "Adventure Works DW" cube, perform
the following:-
1) Drag "Product Categories" natural hierarchy into the page filter area.
2) Right click, select commands and Options. Click on the "Filter and Group
tab, check "Allow selecting multiple items when in the filter area" check box.
3) Select the following items:-
Under Accessories | Helmets
- Sport - 100 Helmet, Red (all three)
- Sport - 100 Helmet, Blue
Under Accessories | Tires and Tubes
- Road Tire Tube
- LL Mountain Tire
4) Drag in "Internet Sales Ammount" as a value. The total is now 109,049.32
5) Drag Customer into the Row Fields area. The total at the bottom is still
109,049.32 Select the following customers:-
- Aaron B. Adams
- Aaron Bryant
NB: Note the total of AAron B. Adams is 38.98
6) To break out the value into products we drag the Product attribute
dimension next to the Customer Fields on the rows. Suddenly the Internet
Sales Amount for Aaron B. Adams is 117.96 and NOT 38.98.
If we expand the customer Aaron B. Adams to see the break out of Products,
we note the following values:-
- Sport - 100 Helmet, Red 34.99
- Road Tire Tube 3.99
- Total 117.96
We can see the same thing if we drag the Products into the Column list.
Basically the totals don't match. The Totals are not applying the filter from
the "Product Categories" (see step 1-3 above), but instead are showing the
FULL total for ALL Products.
We can easily replicate this with any combination of hierarchies in our
cube, and the Adventure Works sample.

Hi JPO,.
Welcome to the Microsoft MSDN Managed Newsgroup Services. My name is
Charles. It is my pleasure to work with you on this post.
To help isolate if this is an OWC specific issue, could you verify if this
issue also happens in your Excel 2003 workbook?
I performed a test in my Excel 2003 and 2007, however I could not reproduce
this issue. Dragging a level to the pivot table column does not affect the
existing filters. If this issue also happens in your Excel, I suspect that
the issue is related to the incorrect relationships between your dimensions
and measures in your cube. You can run SQL Profiler to monitor your SSAS
instance and capture what the submitted MDX query is and then copy the MDX
query out and paste it into a query window in your SQL Server Management
Studio to check and test. You can also check the query in your Business
Intelligence Studio (BIDS) under Browse window. Please ensure that the
relationship between your dimension and your measure has been established
in your BIDS.
Please do not hesitate to let me know if you have any other questions or
concerns.
Best regards,
Charles Wang
