RE: Synchronization (Solved!)

Tech-Archive recommends: Speed Up your PC by fixing your registry

Here I am replying to myself again.

Mystery solved!
For the records: when you have a DELL PowerEdge Server with a Broadcom
NetXtreme II on board, take the time and configure the network adapter
properly with the Broadcom Administrator Control Suite.......
otherwise your Synchronization will behave strangely.

I have 2 servers Both are 64bits:

1. One with Double Quad Core and 8GB memory.
2. One with Double Dual Core and 4GB memory.

Both are running SQL 2005 64bit Enterprise Edition.
The Syncronization get stuck from server #1 to server #2. But on the weekend
I tried the other way, from server #2 to server #1 it worked. Still don't
know what is wrong, all security settings on Server #1 are setup like server
#2.

I used the profiler to check, on the server that works I can see a
Begintrans command executed. On the server that does not work I can only see
connection discovery commands.

Any help on how to troubleshoot this will be welcomed.

Have you considered having more databases each with a few cubes?
E.g., 1 database -> 1 cube.

Update:

First synch didn't work, I stopped it at 2 hours 40 min.

I backed up the database from the source and restored it on the target
server. Modified a cube in the source (added a calculated member ). Started
sync on the target database.... 10+ minutes and counting.......

Can somebody explain how Synchronization works.
I am doing some testing with 2 Olap 2005 Enterprise 64bit. In the
destination computer the database does not exist. I started synchronization
from this computer as a first time sync, it created a lot of tmp files with
GUIDs in the OLAP data directory, but the Status stays in "Synchronization
started"....2+ hours have passed already and it have not finished yet. It
created the folders of the 5 first cubes, we have 41 cubes in the source
database.

Is Syncronization broken? Both machines have SP2 + hotfix 3152.
Is there any limit in the amount of data synchronized?
Any limit on file sizes?
Does the target database have to exist already?
Does the Data Sources have to be the same on both databases?

The manual leaves a lot to be desired.
