CTP = Community Technology Preview
As an MSDN subscriber you can download CTP releases (which are coming out
about every other month). This program is a replacement for the beta program
that you see with many other products. Both SQL Server Yukon and Visual
Studio 2005 are running the same type of CTP programs. It is a way of us
getting to customers earlier and quicker builds.
Ref: And can the report builder run on 2000 as well without VS
Yes, RB can run against 3 data sources, i.e. SQL Server 2005 RDBMS
databases, SQL Server 2000 databases, and SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services
databases. It does not run under Visual Studio, but is a Winform click-once
download. It directly communicates with the report server allowing you to
design and deploy simple end-user oriented reports.
