Re: Insert fails on linked server to Sybase

I haven't even been able to get that far - I've managed to set up sql
server 2005 on my local machine, but cannot manage to even set up the
linked (sybase) server.
I'm currently working around it by creating a new MS Access database,
importing the relevant data into there as a snapshot and now the
intention is to import that data into SQL 2005....just waiting for the
truckloads of data to come across the network, one electron at a time!
Obviously this is NOT a good workaround - anyone with any suggestions
as to how I could set it up so I could actually SEE the sybase db, I'd
be most appreciative
cheers,
niall

*Hi,
I have set up a linked server on our SQL2005 using MSDASQL that maps
to a
system ODBC dns pointing to a Sybase server.
The Sybase OLD DB Provider is very unreliable, so we have to use the
ODBC
thing.
I can select, delete and update tables in Sybase using the linked
server,
but cannot do inserts!
I have tried using the ODBC connection from another app where the
insert
goes well.
OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "SYBASE" returned
message
"Unspecified error".
Msg 7343, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "SYBASE" could not
INSERT
INTO table "[SYBASE].[mydatabase].[dbo].[mytable]"
Has anyone seen this before ??
