Excessive locking

Hello,

it looks that Microsoft SQL Server 2000 - 8.00.760 table with
autoincrement field is locked (even for read) between any insert and commit
in manual commit mode.
The same code works with Postgres just fine.

The isolation level is the default one.

Any suggestions?
