timeout

Hi
i am using mssql7,and sometimes i am getting this
error(Microsoft ODBC SQL SERVER DRIVER TIMEOUT EXPIRED)
while upating and fetching data from a particular table.
and also the application will hang at that time.after some
time it will work normal.how can i solve this problm
