MSDE2000 on SBS2000

Hi all I have a question about installing MSDE2000 on SBS2000.
A customer of ours has a Server with SBS2000 installed on it. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about SBS2000.
Apparently though there is already a named instance of SQL called "Server\BKUPEXEC". I don't know if this is MSDE or SQL2000. I suspect MSDE due to a lack of EntMan etc.
I have a running copy of SQL Server Manager which seems to indicate that this is the opnly copy of SQL/MSDE on the machine.
I am trying to install a default instance of MSDE to service our application but (and I'm sorry as the information available here is through a 3rd party and I have not exoperienced this myself) whilst the MSDE install appears to run through correctly, there does not appear to be any additional copies of MSDE on the machine following this install.
I am lead to believe that the machine has been rebooted and that whilst I would expect to be able to find an MSSQLSERVER Service running but apparently there isn't.
I am endeavouring to get a log file which was created with the /l*v parameter but in the interim period I wondered if anyone might havea clue as to why the apparent refusal to install.
I will post the log file as soon as I get it
Thanks very much for any info.
