personally I never "upgraded" MSDE 1.0 instance to MSDE 2000 ... I always
backedup the users database and restored them on the MSDE2000 new instance
after uninstalling MSDE 1.0.. but I had no reason to maintain the MSDE 1.0
instance at all...

reports you have to add the
UPGRADE=1 UPGRADEUSER=username UPGRADEPWD=userpwd
commandline parameters to your call to the setup.exe bootstrap installer...

the users databases will be upgraded to MSDE 2000 level... you coul'd be
affected by cross database ownership chaining, which behaviour has been
