those are SQL Server components that are shared and common to all instances
installed on the same server, such as SQL-DMO components, the Server Network
Utiliy, oSql.exe.... al the client tools available to MSDE [and they are not
much =:-(( ]
when you install a new service pack, all this components, even if shared
among all instances with different service pack level, will be update to the
new service pack level, for all instances..
