RE: Installing SS 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1

Possibly you could help me.

SQL 2K5
I extracted JDBC 1.1 to c:\program files\ (e.g. C:\Program Files\Microsoft
SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver\sqljdbc_1.1)

I see the .jar file but I have no idea how/where I am to define the
classpath. I have a 3rd party application that needs to access my SQL data
via a JDBC driver and I have never used this method of connection before.

How do I confirm I have the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4 version or
later installed?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Never mind.

I just found the instructions re: CLASSPATH, etc. on the Data Access forum.
Thanks for your help. Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

I found the executable jar but when I click on it I get a dialog from the
Java Virtual Machine Launcher saying that it's an "invalid or corrupt
jarfile". That either means its truly corrupt (I downloaded again, with same
results) or that I wasn't supposed to click on it.

I'm an absolute novice with this java/jdbc stuff. What am I supposed to do
with this jar.

When you run the installer it unzips the jar and install it in the directory
you choose. You should find the jar what directory you unzipped the contents
to.

Hate to be an idiot but, well, this isn't really my world. Just getting
started...

I downloaded the SS 2005 JDBC Driver 1.1 and ran the sqljdbc...enu.exe file
that came down. That appears to be a self-extracting zip and, once executed,
there are no executables in the extracted folder structure. There is an
install.txt file that tells me how to launch the help system for the driver,
but that help system has no installation instructions. No sign in Control
Panel that a SQL Server JDBC is installed. Etc...

How do I install this?

Thanks.

If it matters, I'm running Vista RC2, SS 2005 SP2 CTP and JDK 1.6 Beta (so
that NetBeans would install under Vista). Lots of betas, and CTP's and RC's
in there, I know...
