Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver is released to the web -- JAN 18, 2005

Last week the new SQL Server 2005 JDBC driver was publicly released and is
available here -- http://msdn.microsoft.com/data/jdbc/default.aspx.

The Microsoft SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver is a Type 4, JDBC 3.0 compliant
driver and is being tested against all major application servers including
BEA WebLogic, IBM WebSphere, JBoss & Sun.

The new driver has been optimized for SQL Server 2005 and key areas of
enhancement for the driver include:

- Improved Performance

- Improved Transaction Support

- Support for new SQL Server 2005 Data Types

In addition to the product enhancements, the new ISV friendly licensing
structure will allow registered ISVs to freely embed and re-distribute the
driver as needed.

As SQL Server has becomes more pervasive in the enterprise, an increasing
number of customers running mission critical applications have been asking
for improved JDBC connectivity and commitment from the SQL Server team. This
led to the SQL Server team making a significant and long term investment to
release the new driver and commit to supporting the latest JDBC
specification moving forward.

The development and support teams for this driver are monitoring this forum
and we'll do our best to answer any questions you have about this new
product.
