Thanks very much for the information.
The Data transformation Services option has now appeared within Legacy.

As the DTS packages that i need to transfer into the server will also need
to be scheduled.
Is your suggested way to import them into "Data Transformation Services",
but the how can they be scheduled.
Or
create a job and assign the step to the scripted .dts file from the old
server, however this doesn't appear to import the DTS package into "Data
Transformation Services" like i'd have expected within SQL2000. Also if i
reference the DTS script file the following ||||| appears within the step. Is
this as you'd expect?

If the install was successful, the change should be at this point in the
SSMS Object Explorer. (If you don't see it, double-check that the DTS
components were installed on your client. I don't actually install that
part on the server, since nobody edits DTS packages there (not even me), but
it will not harm anything.) Menu path:

Servername
Management
Legacy
Data Transformation Services

We installed the Legacy Components with our SQL Server 2005 installs. I
don't know if you need to restart your server or not, but that is often the
case after applying additional components.

Since you are trying to minimize change, you want the topic "Running DTS
Packages from SQL Server Agent Jobs" which basically says, do it the same
way you were in SQL Server 2000.

i installed "SQLServer2005_DTS.msi" first and now the "Microsoft SQL
Server
2005 Backward Compatibility Components".

Would you recommend that i re-install them in this order?
1. "Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Backward Compatibility Components"
2. "SQLServer2005_DTS.msi"

i can't see an option within SQL server management studio for DTS and also
no applications appear within the start menu.

Although I am on SQL Server 2005 for many servers, we still have many DTS
packages running the legacy (SQL 2000) DTSRUN command. So, once you get
all
the pieces in place, it should all work fine.
