Re: Problem setting up Oracle -> SQL dts task

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hello Philip,

I think Oracle client is also necessary and MDAC shall be updated for this
situation.

Peter

Just to clarify - I'm running the enterprise manager on an XP PC. My
intention is to pull the data from Oracle and push it to MS SQL. Do I
still
need to make changes on the SQL Server as your posting suggests?

Thanks.

Hello Philip,

Please check if you create a odbc DSN to oracle on the server, can you
access Oracle server properly via ODBC connection using MS odbc driver
for
Oracle?

You may want to install the latest Oracle client to test the situation:

220915.KB.EN-US PRB: SQL Distributed Query with Oracle Needs Oracle
Client
and
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;220915

In addition, you may want to reinstall MDAC on the server by right
clicking
%windir%\mdac.inf->Install. You will be prompted to insert Win2003 SP1
setup CD.

Since it is a hang issue, to find out the root cause of this issue we may
need to analyze memory dumps, this work has to be done by contacting
Microsoft Product Support Services. Therefore, we probably will not be
able
to resolve the issue through the newsgroups. I recommend that you open a
Support incident with Microsoft Product Support Services so that a
dedicated Support Professional can assist with this case. If you need any
help in this regard, please let me know.

For a complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone numbers,
please go to the following address on the World Wide Web:

I've set up a PC that is to act as a DTS engine to pull data out of an
Oracle server & pump it into a database under SQL 2000. I've done it this
way, rather than using the SQL Server itself because I don't want to
install
the Oracle client software onto the server.

I've created the DTS package with the Oracle connection, the SQL
connection
and a Transform Data Task between the two. My problem is that if I
right-click on the transform data task, the user interface just hangs.
I've
tried using both the ODBC and OLE DB Oracle connectoids, but to no avail.

I've checked that the Oracle client software is able to communicate with
the
Oracle server, and it is.

Any suggestions?
