Our currenet archetecture is we have a
- PreStaging area (this is copies of the tables we are going to use - our
ODS)
- Staging (this is the results of the ETL - star schema) we have our
dimensions and facts
- Data Warehouse - we do a delta between Staging and Data Warehouse. Any
problems with the ETL only effected Staging
I know we could just go from PreStaging and ETL straight to the Data
Warehouse but it has been working for us better when we run into problems..
We don't have to roll out things from the DW if something fails is the big
thing.
How are others doing it?
I suggest you to take a look at the SQLBI Methodology (http://
www.sqlbi.com/sqlbimethodology.aspx) - we also have a forum to make
discussions about it - it's a very large and wide topic...
