How do I connect to a SQL Server Express 2008 database?

I installed SQL Server Express 2008 and VB.Net Express 2008.
I added a database and a table in SQL Server Express (using run as admin
user), and set my regular user account as the owner.
I tried to add that database as a resource in my VB.Net app and it keeps
saying insufficient permissions or file in use.
I found a data source option in VB.Net which appears to have created a new
database of it's own which looks like the SQL Server database. Are they the
same? I can't access that one from my SQL Server application.
