Hi,
I am experiencing the exact same issue. MS SQL was working fine previously.
After installing a new self signed certificate using SelfSSL for an IIS
website. I am no longer able to use the SQL 2005 Management Studio to connect
to the server.
Any suggestions would be very helpful.

Ah, I expect that the two are unrelated--especially since you're apparently.
trying a local connection. Let's see your connection string.
Have you checked out the whitepaper on connecting on my blog? See

The connection with the server was set correctly, but then there was an
error during the handshake pre-login. (provider: Provider shared memory,
error: 0 - No other process on the other end of pipe.) (Microsoft SQL

I've tryed almost everyting but have found no solution:
i disabled via protocol
checked if remote conn was enabled
selected trust certificate (in sq lconfiguration manager)
removed my certificate
uninstalled selfcert
