i configured remote and local tcp connection there is two named instances but
none of them can be found. it is a sql server 2005 enterprise x64 on a
windows server 2008 x64

Is it a named instance or the default instance? If a named instance, did you
open UDP port 1434. (i.e: not TCP port 1434.)
Also there are some operating systems situations that might apply. What is
the OS of the client and the server?
