Sounds like you don't have remote connections setup.
Goto Surface Area Configuration and on the connections tab, make sure you've
enable remote.

I have a problem with a newly installed system where I can't seem to login
from a client. The SQL Server is set up for mixed authentication, and I can
login locally (using the Managment Studio). I have checked the the event
log, which verifies that the SQL Server indeed has denied the login. Both
the SQL Server machine and the machine I am trying to login from is both
Windows 2003 Servers running as domain controllers for the DOMAIN domain. My
account is member of a domain group that in turn is granted the 'sysadmin'
role on the SQL Server (however, as I can login locally, I don't think that
matters).
SQL Server 2005, 9.00.2042 (Build 3790 Service Pack 2).
This is the ERRORLOG lines of the failed login event.
2008-05-22 20:36:38.56 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 5.
2008-05-22 20:36:38.56 Logon Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\jonny'.
[CLIENT: x.x.x.x]
State 5 means 'invalid userid'???
I also have problems with login using a machine account. The setup is the
same, the computer is member of a domain group that in turn is granted the
'public' role to the SQL Server. This also fails, but with another State
code.
2008-05-22 19:57:40.25 Logon Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 11.
2008-05-22 19:57:40.25 Logon Login failed for user 'DOMAIN\WEB01$'.
[CLIENT: x.x.x.x]
State 11 means 'Valid login but server access failure'.
I am basically stuck, so any help is much appreciated.
