RE: cannot log into Reporting Services from SMSS

Hi Peter,

When I try to log into the Report Server from IE per your #1, it returns
essentially "Internet Explorer cannot open this page."

I'm emailing you the last few logs. I noticed at one point in the logs it
says "Evaluation copy: 0 days left". I've installed the Developer version of
SQL Server 2005 with the latest service pack (SP1 I believe). In SMSS, when
I try to log into Analyis Services or any of the others (Integration
Services, etc.), it works--it's just Reporting Services I cannot log into.
I've installed SQL Server 2005 on my laptop, and it responds exactly the same
way (i.e. cannot log into Reporting Services but can log into other services).

I have pulled up the Reporting Services configuration, and everything
appears to be fine (I haven't selected encryption keys, but I don't see how
that should matter).

There is no web.config file in c:\inetpub\wwwroot.

I Googled the error message and found a number of other people have had this
issue, but found no-one that had a suggested fix to it. My guess is that it
has something to do with the "Evaluation Copy" in the log.

Hello Ed,

To understand the issue better, I'd like to know the following informaiton:

1. What's the result if you connect to http://servername/reportserver and
http://servername/report? If you encounter errors, please let me know the
exact error message.

2. Please collect the report services log under

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.x\Reporting Services\LogFiles

You could send them to me and remove "online" from my displayed email
address.

3. Did you try to Reporting services configuration from startup menu->All
Programs->SQL Server 2005->Configuration tools?

Please check if the IIS is properly configured in the machine. Is there a
web.config in c:\inetpub\wwwroot? There shouldn't be one. If there is one,
please temporarily move the file to another folder and run RS configuration
tool to see if it helps.

If you have other related information, please feel free to let's know.
Thank you.

Best Regards,

Peter Yang
