Login failed for user '(null)'. Reason: Not associated with a trus

I am have an issue connecting to a server from the local desktop using the
Alias name over TCP/IP. I receive the error "Login failed for user '(null)'.
Reason: Not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection."

I am able to connect to the instance name "server-name/Instance" without an
issue using QA and DSN. The SQL server is SQL 2000 SP4 running on Windows
2003 R2. We need to connect to and run all DTS/Jobs as the Alias name since
it is an EMC Cluster. The previous servers in the cluster seem to be setup
with the same configuration. I have confirmed the DNS and NetBIOS name
resolution are functioning correctly. I have also reviewed the Alias names
and port. Connecting from any other server/workstation using DSN or Query
Analyzer functions as expected and can connect.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.
