Re: Cant Connect

To just add, I now get the error message:

"Login failed for user 'CHRISHARRIES\sq;'. The user is not associated with a
trusted SQL Server connection" I think there must be something in the SQL
config about who can connect or how they can connect

Ok well, i am not logged on to the domain, so I guess i cant use windows
authenticated, but i can ping and remote desktop to the server so I should
be able to the "Use the following Username and Password" bit to gain
access. My SQL server service uses the CHRISHARRIES\sql user accont, so I
should be able to login via that login, also the Administrator account as
fully access so that also should be able to connect.

The exact error message that I get is: "[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen
(PreLoginHandshake()).]Genral network error. Check your network
documentation"
By looking at this I am guessing it could be something you where talking
about with referance to whether the SQL server is allowing connections,
maybe its something to do with not allowing remote connections or
something like that. I dont know enough about SQL to troubleshoot.

Thanks
Chris

The exact error message is pretty important as that give a
lot of clues as to what the problem could be. Not logging
into the domain (with no trusts) means you can't use a
Windows login. If SQL logins fail, the server may not be
configured to allow SQL Logins, just Window authentication.
If SQL Server is configured to allow Windows and SQL Logins,
make sure you are using a valid SQL login, try to connect
using the IP address and make sure you can ping the server
names by IP.

I have tried this and nothing works I get the same error of "this account
is
not an SQL trusted source" or something along those lines

I have tried administrator, sql, windows authenticated...all get the same
error, I get it 2 machines aswell, it just isn't letting me
connect...Could
it be because I am not joined to the domain. My servers are virtual
servers
and I am using my laptop to connect to it, but I am not in the domain
that
server1 (the sql and AD server) is on

I am trying to set up my Access Data Access Page but it is telling
that "this account inst a trusted SQL account" or something along
those lines, but it does it for all, even my Administrator account,
what do i need to do so I can connect?

You may try to use SQL authentication, using a SQL Login, instead of a
trusted authentication.
