I apologize in advance if this sounds like I'm talking down to you, but you
did install the service pack and not just download and unpack it, right?
When you download the file and run it, it only unpacks the files, it doesn't
actually install anything. There's a setup.exe program in the directory you
unpacked the service pack into that needs to be run to install the service
pack. To really make sure that you've got it installed, what does "select
@@version" return? It should say 8.00.0760.09 if SP3a is installed properly.
