Well, although I was not the starter of this thread, I still want to thank
you for this reply. This has been exactly my point several times when I've
been in contact with customers. A cluster may actually lower availability
when not properly used, and as you say you need a test/QA environment. Now I
have one to cower my back next time I run into the discussion on test
environment with one of my customers :)

First, I would build a test environment and lear about clustering and its.
particular quirks. You will need this anyway for testing patching and
cluster deployment techniques.
Second, clustering is merely one element in a highly available
infrastructure. If you have a cluster and nobody knows how to use it
properly, you can end up lowering the overall system availability instead of
raising it.

Hi
I have a client who wants a new SQL Server 2008 Ent(on Windows 2008
Server)
installation. He wants redundancy so I know we can cluster SQL (2 node?).
I
unfortunately have no knowledge of SQL clustering so would welcome any
suggestions as to what best practice is. I have of course read in-depth
on
the subject but would welcome real-life comment. Any particular
references
to easy--to-follow literature would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks in advance
