What you NEED is to expose two LUNs (disks), quorum and "database", to both
nodes, however I do recommend a better configuration, in which you use
dedicated LUNs for database files, log files, tempdb and backups. And before
someone kills me, I know there is no perforamance or security benefit from
this configuration, but I still want the flexibility it offers to for
instance move log files to another SAN or disk set on the SAN. I also preffer
to have both tempdb and backup files on separate LUNs, so that they don't
cause trouble for database files or log files in case the disk should happen
to run out of space.
So, in your active/passive configuraiton I would suggest five LUNs, namely:
quorum, database, log, backup and tempdb, although you can run it with just
two LUNs if you want.

Hi guys,.
I am wondering if someone could clear up some information for me.
I am in the midst of changing our network environment to virtual and have
setup a cluster with 2 poweredge nodes and iSCSI SAN. I would like to have 2
sql servers in passive\active configuration for fault tolerance, so that if
the first one fails, second one kicks in soon after. I have exposed qourum
and virtual disk to both servers. Do i have to expose one more virtual disk
and have one sql server on 1LUN and second sql on 2LUN? I am in the midst of
testing this out and would appreciate any help in regards to that.
