I'm getting the same error message:
Windows 20003 Enterprise (SP1)
SQL 2005 Standard (RTM)
2-node A/P Cluster
Dell 2650
Dell 2650
Dell PV220S (Cluster Mode, PERC 3/DC)
Firmware and BIOS up to date.
Cluster services is properly installed; heartbeat configuration is set in
accordance with MS best practices. MS DTC is installed (as a cluster
resource) and network enabled. Attempting to install:
SQL Database Engine
Integration Services
Error Message on Screen is:
TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup

Setup failed to start on the remote machine. Check the Task scheduler event
log on the remote machine.

Error message in Summary.txt is:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.1399.06
==============================
OS Version : Microsoft Windows Server 2003 family, Enterprise Edition
Service Pack 1 (Build 3790)
Time : Tue Nov 28 12:12:10 2006
XXXXXXXXXX : Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not
installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features.
Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation.
To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs
in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is
already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of
features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server
in Books Online.
Task did not appear to start on machine: \\XXXXXXXXXX: 267013
I'm not aware that the DB Engine or Integration Services require IIS. The
task scheduler log on the remote machine says:
"SQL Server Remote Setup .job" (setup.exe) 11/28/2006 12:16:19 PM ** ERROR **
Unable to start task.
The specific error is:
0x80070005: Access is denied.
Try using the Task page Browse button to locate the application.
Ugh.

What version of SQL? What OS level? Is this for an instance or the default?.
Do you already have an instance installed? Any other clustering issues?

Hi all,
I am trying to setup the cluster SQL server, say ServerA and ServerB.
While
I start the setup in ServerA, it prompts,
'Setup failed to start on the remote machine. Check the Task scheduler
event
log on the remote machine.'
But I found that there is no remote logon to both nodes and the service
task
scheduler is running in both node.
On the other hand, I try to install the SQL via ServerB, it prompts for
valid Native client package 'sqlncli.msi' and caused the setup failed
finally. However, the Native client was setup successfully as a
prerequisite
once starting the setup.
Any advise? Thanks in advance!!
