SQL Server 2005 supports 2-node clustering. If you want more nodes (up to
8
total), you have to go to EE.

To my knowledge you need the Enterprise version of the OS as well as the
Enterprise version of the Application (SQL 2005 in this case) to cluster.

Therefore, if you want to cluster, you need Enterprise licensing.

If you want to downgrade due to the cost of Enterprise licensing, you
might
want look into other technologies for availability, such as database
mirroring or transaction log shipping and replications.

It is a matter of choice, clustering or logshipping or database mirroring
or
replication. Each solution comes at a cost, and each solution has its own
price tag.

Edwin.

I have an SQL Enterprise 2005 Cluster that should have been setup as 2005
Standard Cluster. Mainly for licensing and $$ reasons I need to convert
this. It is running on Win2K3 with just some small production databases
on
it (not heavy use). I am not using any special features for 2005
Enterprise
that would require that I leave that in place. What is the easiest way
to
downgrade this cluster? Will I have to rebuild this from scratch and
restore
the databases?

Thank you for any help you can provide.
