Globally separated cluster

I am trying to plan a SQL Server 2005 cluster across multiple data
centers around the world. Basically the database backs a load balanced
web application. Each site has its own set of web servers and its own
database servers but the databases must be in sync around the world so
minimal downtime can be achieved in case one site fails (requests can
easily be redirected to the next closest site). In addition, each site
needs to have redundancy (most likely in the form of a Windows 2003
cluster). I'm guessing this is going to require some form of 3rd party
(non-Microsoft) solution but I just wanted to see if anyone else has
experience in this type of situation.
I was originally thinking mirroring the cluster but I can only do that
one time.
Thanks for any info
