RE: Error 18456, Severity 14, State 16

When connecting from a remote machine I get the following issues.

As I have been having the issue for a while, I have tried to connect
directly to the master database using the ospl connector, This also returns
that the “SQL server does not exist or access is denied”

Below is the command that I used to get this answer, could you please assist,

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn>osql -S sql-vm\master -U
sa -P password
[DBNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
[DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).

Hi,

Would you please check if you can remotely login to the SQL server by using
SQL Server Management Stuidio? If successed, I think it is a third-party
software issue. I'd like to recommend you work with the third-party vendor
for assistance. Please understand that we don¡¯t have environment to
reproduce and troubleshoot your issue, but please feel free to involve me
during the process of contacting the vendor support, I am glad to provide
any information.

Thanks for understanding.

Scenario:
2 x Windows 2003 Servers Clustered,
Running SQL 2005 Clustered (Active/Passive)
All Service Packs and Patched are up to date,

Problem:
When you try to log in to an SQL Database remotely it does
not
allow you and informs you that the SQL Server is not available or User
Does
not have sufficient rights,
When you look in the SQL Logs the error is listed as Error
18456, Severity 14, State 16
Remote access to the SQL servers has been enabled thru “SQL
Server Surface Area Manager
If you establish an ODBC connection thru windows using the same
user account it works, and can see the SQL Database

The User account we are trying to login with is
1. Domain User Account, Included in the SQL Cluster Group, Local
Administrator of the SQL Server
2. IN SQL the Domain Account has been activated and given db_creator
rights,

The Problem occours when you are using a third party piece of software to
access an SQL Database, that is when I get the error above, as we have
several databases to move across to this NEW SQL 2005 Cluster, any
assistance
would be great
